The experts said the health risk posed by the explosion of Japan's nuclear reactor is assumed to be low, and even if the winds carry contaminants into the Pacific region, it would not threaten other countries.
Japan is currently working to fix leaks in the three-reactor nuclear power plant in Fukushima, following the tsunami by an earthquake measuring 8.9 magnitude on Friday last.
However, amid fears of neighboring countries and regions in the rest of Asia will be the impact of radiation on the wind, the United Nations through one of its officials assert that the risk of the spread of radiation is still fairly low.
"This is not a public health problem. It will not be like Chernobyl," said Malcolm Crick, Secretary of the United Nations Scientific Committee on Atomic Radiation Field Effects as quoted by Reuters.
As a precautionary measure, the Government of Japan has about 140,000 people evacuated from the area around the reactor in Fukushima.
Crick give an idea, a leak at Three Mile Island nuclear reactor, U.S., in 1979 - which is more severe on an international scale than the events in Japan-issued low-level radiation.
"A lot of people expected to be exposed to radiation after the Three Mile Island. The level of radiation can be detected, but in the context of human health does not mean anything," said Crick.
World Health Organization (WHO) also states that public health risks due to leakage of Japanese nuclear power plant remains in scale "quite low".
Meanwhile, Japan's Meteorological Agency reported that the winds in the area of the reactor moves from south to west on Sunday night, or blowing from Fukushima to the Pacific Ocean.
"The direction of prevailing winds to the community in Japan. Wafts toward the Pacific. But I do not think it would be a problem for other countries," said Lennart Carlsson, Director of Security of Nuclear Power in Sweden.
Chernobyl event known after radiation was detected at Forsmark nuclear plant in Sweden, more than a day after the explosion, in which Moscow party has never officially acknowledged the incident.
Crick stated, time is very helpful in suppressing the leakage risk to health because of the adverse effects of radiation such as radio iodine to disappear in a matter of hours or days.
The Japanese themselves assess the events in Fukushima is at level 4 on an international scale, which means the only cause localized impacts. While the events of Chernobyl is at its highest level, namely the scale 7, and the case at Three Mile Island was in level 5.
